250 Acres of Adventure Awaits Your Child

New Jersey's beloved sleepaway camp where kids swim, explore nature, and grow on 250 wild acres in West Milford.

About Us

Tucked into 250 acres of New Jersey woodland along Macopin Road in West Milford, Camp Vacamas has been turning summers into something kids actually talk about when school starts again. Rated 4.5 stars by families who've sent their children here, this isn't a resort with a pool and a schedule. It's a place where kids get muddy, make real friends, and figure out who they are when screens aren't around.

The camp sits on land that practically begs to be explored. Swimming, hiking, and hands-on outdoor activities fill the days, and the 250-acre property means there's always somewhere new to discover. Cabins are rustic by design, some open-air, which is part of the character. Families who want their kids to experience a genuine outdoor environment rather than a polished resort setting will find exactly that here.

Camp Vacamas operates under the Hi4Y youth development mission, meaning the program is built around more than just fun. Leadership, community, and personal growth are woven into every activity. For parents searching for a sleepaway experience that challenges kids in the best possible way, this is the camp that delivers.

What We Offer

The core of a Camp Vacamas summer is outdoor living done right. Swimming takes center stage, with water activities on the property giving kids daily time in the water. Nature exploration across the wooded acreage teaches kids to read trails, respect ecosystems, and build confidence in environments that don't come with guardrails.

Beyond the outdoors, the program includes classic sleepaway camp activities: team sports, creative arts, campfire traditions, and the kind of unstructured social time that actually builds friendships. Cabin life encourages kids to live alongside peers from different backgrounds, which is a core part of the Hi4Y philosophy.

The camp is designed for kids who are ready to spend real time away from home, building independence day by day. Sessions run through the summer, and the 250-acre setting means activities never feel crowded or repetitive. Parents looking for structured overnight programming with genuine outdoor depth will find the combination here.

Why Choose Us

"now, as a person whom has been here for only trip 1, 2025, i have to say, this camp isnt half bad, only issue, some cabins dont have doors, so if you child is a snacker, i dont recomend this camp, and no, they dont care that much for special diets, they have a salad bar, but thats at most, now, the activities, they are kinda fun, but the issue is that most of them are repetitive, and not to mention the dining hall has leaks in it, and another thing is that you will cook with your division, for lunch and dinner on a daily, now this doesnt seem bad, but the issue is, say your vegan, sometimes you straight up have to skip lunch cause its not vegan, and no, you cant get anything from the dining hall if you do have special diet needs, another issue i have is the showers, the males and females are seperated (luckly enough) but my main problem is the fact that there is LITTLE changing privacy, and there is only 2 showers so it takes a while if your not first, though its not all bad, the people there are great, danny and chealse are both good people, layton is an amazing person, and all of the lifegaurds are cool, but sometimes they get a lil' annoying, but another problem, is if your not fit, you are going to struggle with the long walks, and say if your cabin mates both got bottom bunk, if your top bunk you have NO latter to climb, nor will get one to climb with, and your going to get LOTS and LOTS of bug bites, so bug reppelant is recomened, now, for that specific activities for divisions, they are all.. eh, mid, i was in the SOS division, the activities were all boring, sure you get to tie survival knots, but thats all the info thats useful, the whole setting up a tent thing is a lie, they are pre made tents that you assemble like legos, and the flint and steel? amazon. its a whole tool kit, and i dont think it takes alot of teaching to learn how to hit two peices of metal to make sparks, or slide it against eachother, but other than that the camp is good, they do care for your kids (kinda) but in my opinion, if you can, send your kids to. a different camp unless they love forest like areas!"
